'The MacGuffin' film journal

In 1990 Ken Mogg published 'The MacGuffin' film journal via subscription. The main subject was the films of Alfred Hitchcock. It was usually published quarterly and ran to 29 editions. It was the origin of this web site.

The journal is named after Hitchcock's / Angus MacPhail's name for a diversionary plot device. (So perhaps our 'MacGuffin' is just a pleasant diversion from the films themselves!) Every Hitchcock buff knows the concept of the MacGuffin.

'The MacGuffin' is indexed in 'Film Literature Index', New York, and by the International Federation of Film Archives, Brussels. Top Australian film critic Adrian Martin wrote in the Melbourne 'Age' that 'The MacGuffin' contains some of 'the finest pieces of Hitchcock scholarship produced anywhere in the world'. Our readers include film teachers and academics, professional writers on film, film students, and keen general Hitchcock buffs. 'The MacGuffin' is written with minimal jargon.
